TUD Student Placement

As part of the Architectural Technology degree course run by TUD Bolton Street (Technical University Dublin, formerly DIT) the students are required to fulfil a 12 week work placement in an architectural practice as part of their 3rd year programme. McKevitt King Architects have placed a student as part of this programme for the first time. The placements are coordinated within TUD by Malachy Matthews and Jim Roche. Malachy lives locally in Drogheda, and Jim was responsible for helping shape the minds of other members of the practice during their time in DIT Bolton Street (James McKevitt, Eoin O’Donnell and Tomas Connors).

The placement is very structured with the student having a set number of learning outcomes to achieve. The student’s mentor within the office receives structured CPD points for their role. The placement is a paid internship with the student working 4.5 days a week with the last half day on Friday back in college for professional development lectures with Stephen Best. The student logs their activities in the office and compiles a report for presentation to their class. The students are proficient in Revit and have a working knowledge of Autocad along with their prior construction technology knowledge.

The student placed with McKevitt King Architects is Buky Fazzaz who lives in Drogheda. A past pupil of St. Oliver’s Community College, Buky only lives around the corner from the office so is gaining experience working on local Drogheda based projects.
