Working with McAuley Kitchens

With any successful design project ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’. Creating quality spaces that respond to their required end-use, orientation, light, etc. is paramount but a key component to completing any space is the standard of the “finishes”. What we mean by finishes are the choice of materials, textures, profiles and colours to the various surfaces (be it to walls, floors, ceilings and more). Furniture and lighting also play a huge part in this. A project can easily be enhanced or ruined with the selection of an inappropriate suite of couches or an over/undersized kitchen table.

Arguably the most important room in the vast amount of domestic projects is the kitchen area. In a more modern and very popular way of living the kitchen almost always incorporates a dining and living space. The kitchen has now effectively also become the living room so becomes the heart of the house.

Therefore the choice and design of the kitchen itself is critical to how a project ultimately turns out. Getting this wrong can destroy an overall design. Over the lifetime of McKevitt King Architects we have worked with hundreds of different kitchen designers & suppliers – some better than others. Different kitchen suppliers offer a varying level of service and standard.

The choice of supplier can hinge on a variety of factors: budget/price, design service, style, range, showroom, lead-in, compatibility, reputation/track-record and even personality. As with any contributor to a project (contractor, sub-contractor, supplier) we as architects have to be careful as to who we recommend to clients – the same applies to kitchens. At present we are indirectly dealing with over ten different kitchen suppliers spread across our various current projects. Any kitchen provider is only as good as his/her last job. There is a fluid list of suppliers that we share with clients.

Due to the high number of projects that we collaborate on, it is worth special mention of McAuley Kitchens. Like ourselves McAuley Kitchens are local, are long established, have a strong reputation, and place an emphasis on a high standard of product and service. Due to these attributes it is no surprise that we have worked together on so many projects. Unlike some kitchen suppliers Peter McAuley and Ciara Corrigan are excellent designers, with a great understanding and respect for the client’s requirements and a project’s overall vision. We don’t have to recommend any kitchen designer over another – we let the client satisfy themselves as to who they want to work with. We have found that in almost every instance once a client engages with Peter & Ciara they never look back. As sole agents in Ireland for ‘Pedini’ kitchens from Italy, they offer a very slick contemporary option that compliments and enhances any modern design. However they have the ability to design and manufacture any style of kitchen as desired.

We enjoy working with McAuley Kitchens and value what they do for our clients, and we look forward to continued collaboration into the future.
