House in Meath Photographed
We recently photographed a beautiful extension and refurbishment to a house in County Meath. Click here to see the finial finished images and more details of the project.
This project is located at the end of a cul-de-sac, with farmland and wooded area to the east, and views south out over the River Nanny and the sloping fields along it. The project consists of two main parts – an extension out into the garden to the rear, and another extension to the side at 1st floor level.
The new extension to the rear contains the kitchen/dining area, but opens up into a larger L-shaped space that also contains a living area. The kitchen space is wrapped in glass, and also benefits from a long rooflight over the kitchen galley. The floor is coated with a grey resin which, combined with the abundance of light, creates a sleek contemporary feel. A beautiful Pedini kitchen by McAuley Kitchens further enhances the space. Internally the kitchen opens into an art room which has a large window seat. Outside, the patio is laid with grey porcelain paving which in ways acts as a continuation of the internal floor, further adding to the sense of space.
A deep zinc & cedar clad overhang provides shade in the high summer months, and is a strong architectural feature. The soft angle of the cedar clad soffit creates a dynamism to the structure, with the overhang cantilevered to create a lightweight effect.
A length of the existing side boundary wall has been replaced with a glass screen which allows the patio area a view out into the adjoining field (or a view into the house for the curious cattle).
The 1st floor extension houses the master suite, which enjoys the vistas to the east and south out into the light-filled green space that surrounds the site. The extension is designed as a timber clad box that sits into the traditional form of the existing house, being its own defined element.
Entering the front of the house you pass through a large pivot door to an existing double height space and move through frameless glass doors into the large open plan space. The front door is an impressive piece of joinery, which further enhances the overall contemporary style.
