Dundalk Grammar School Reception Building Photographed

December 17, 2024

The Dundalk Grammar School required additional space for administration services and an arrival point for visitors, deliveries and students. This presented an opportunity to create a new public interface for the school. Our building provides an urban presence by designing a new copper clad wing, precisely detailed, behind an old brick wall, enclosing courtyards on both sides.

Our intervention is designed to be reversible, sitting amongst 4 no. protected structures, trees on the preservation list and on the boundary of an Architectural Conservation Area. Developing the site had many challenges, some relating to archaeology and the uncovering of previously unrecorded subterranean features. Our design responds to these parameters while making a building that will strengthen the presence of the school within the town.
