McCloskey’s shop and former bakery buildings at 62/63 Trinity Street, Drogheda are to be refurbished and returned to their former glory as part of a proposed development which will see the empty buildings and site transformed into 48 new homes in the town centre, with the famous McCloskey shop at it’s heart.
McCloskey’s Bakery shop is the only part of the site currently in use since the bakery moved its operation to the Ballymakenny road in 2007. Since then, the large site in the centre of Drogheda has remained mostly empty and unused. The sloped site stretches from Trinity Street, back to the large green in Trinity Gardens and will see a new landmark building delivered to Drogheda at the end of the Fair Green. The development will consist of the refurbishment and extension of McCloskey’s bakery shop, which has been part of the fabric of Drogheda on Trinity Street since the 1940’s. The refurbishment and upgrades will ensure the shop remains an intrinsic part of the town for years to come. In addition to this the development will also consist of the renovation of the existing 2 storey townhouse at 62 Trinity Street, the change of use, renovation and extension of the original bakery buildings to accommodate 3no. units, the construction of 3no. further units within the footprint of the former bakehouse at Fair Green, the construction of 38 no. units within a new structure at the rear of the site, new internal footpaths, bicycle parking, car parking, public open space and landscaping as well as all associated site development and infrastructure works.
