We recently had the pleasure of photographing one of our finished projects in Painestown, County Meath.
Once the site of a bungalow requiring significant upgrades, a new two storey dwelling sits proudly in the centre of the site’s spectacular mature setting. The new house takes full advantage of the sun path, privacy and shelter afforded by the existing mature trees and landscaping.
The overall building form is based on a traditional two storey farmhouse type dwelling, typical to Painestown, with part single storey elements. Two distinct pitched roof forms arranged in an ‘L’ are linked by linear planes made up of flat roofs, canopies and an upper terrace, all surrounding a stunning south facing courtyard. Large, glazed sliding doors have been utilised throughout the scheme, particularly along the perimeter of the courtyard, creating strong visual and physical connections between the internal spaces and the landscape beyond. A traditional palette of natural stone and timber have been selected, expressed in a contemporary manner incorporating influences from the client’s experiences living all over the world.
