St Marys Church Roof Repairs Start on Site

Repair work to the roof of St. Mary’s Church, James Street, Drogheda has recently commenced on site. The church is a protected structure and was built between 1884 and 1892. Work on this conservation project is being carried out by Skyline Supplies (Barbary Roofing). The original slates are Blue Bangors with banding in blood red slates. It is proposed to reuse the existing slates on the lower roofs and reslate the main roof with new Blue Bangors. Blood red slates are no longer quarried, therefore an Argentinian slate will be incorporated to create the banding. Templates were taken of the existing ridge tiles and decorative finials so replacement pieces could be reformed in terracotta and incorporated where required. The work is expected to be completed early this autumn.
